On the morning of Friday May 31, Origin Fruit Direct loaded the first CoolRail container from the Coolport location in Rotterdam. "The first shipment we are sending is a party of grapefruit for a customer in Spain," says Gijsbert van Leeuwen of Origin Fruit Direct.

"The CoolRail concept is interesting for serving our southern European customers from Rotterdam and offers a great alternative for arrivals in the Spanish and Portuguese ports. We are more flexible with this concept and have more control over the fruit that we ship as we use CoolPort Rotterdam. We can also use this connection to supply our Dutch customers with Spanish product. Transporting products by rail is a great and efficient way to save CO2," according to Gijsbert.
