Argentina and Russia took advantage of the celebration of the XIV Argentine-Russian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic-Commercial and Scientific-Technical Cooperation, to strengthen commercial ties. After having been trading with each other for more than ten years, exports to Russia have increased by 46% last year.
The meeting was organized by the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was used by both working committees to discuss trade and investment, energy, agriculture, fisheries, and scientific-technological cooperation.
"There were advances in phytosanitary negotiations, mainly regarding fresh citrus fruit and cherries," stated Argentina's Foreign Ministry. The Russian delegation was composed of representatives of different agencies of that country and was chaired by the head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Control of the Russian Federation, Sergey Dankvert.
Argentina's Executive appreciates that the economies of Moscow and Buenos Aires are complementary, especially in the agribusiness, energy, and infrastructure sectors.
"Russia presents great opportunities to continue increasing Argentina's participation in its fruit and vegetable market, among others, as well as the potential to develop other sectors, such as pharmaceutical, biotechnology and agricultural machinery," the Foreign Ministry said.
