Eight years of coordinated and diligent work ended with the publication in the Royal Thai Government Gazette of the "Protocol on Phytosanitary Requirements for the Importation of Avocado Hass from Peru into Thailand."
This is the result of a collaborative effort between Peru —through its Foreign Affairs Ministry and National Agricultural Sanitation Service (Senasa)— and Thai authorities. The document was published by Thailand's Department of Agriculture (DOA) on May 10 and came into force the next day.
In order to start exporting avocados to Thailand, the Peruvian Embassy in Bangkok, the Peruvian Exporters Association (Adex), and Peru's Trade Office in Jakarta (OCEX Jakarta) have being coordinating the participation of Hass avocado producers in the business delegation attending this year's THAIFEX.
The above-mentioned event is the most important trade fair for food and drinks in Southeast Asia and will be held May 28-June 1 in Bangkok.
With a population of almost 70 million inhabitants, more than 40 million tourists per year, and a highly developed gastronomic industry, Thailand is an important market for Peruvian fruits, vegetables, and hydro-biological products.
According to andina.pe, Thai people will soon be able to enjoy this nutritious and healthy "superfood" with the quality characteristics of every Peruvian product.
