This week's price of Chinese apples increased in comparison with last week. The main reasons for this development are as follows: first, all the apples on the market are from last year's harvest. Extreme weather conditions greatly affected the apple trees during blossom season. Frost, rainfall, and hailstorms did much damage to the flowers. As a result, the overall production volume greatly declined and the current apple market experiences supply shortage. Second, because the production volume declined, the purchase price of apples from production areas increased. Add to this the cost price of transport and cold storage, and the overall price of apples rapidly grows.
The apple price is expected to stabilize after PRC National Day on October 1st when the new harvest of apples gradually enters the market.
