Fresh vegetables will soon be available at Hyderabad metro stations. Lakshmibai, the Director of the Mana Kuragayalu Project, says that a formal approval from the Hyderabad Metro Rail has come about and soon commuters would be able to pick up veggies.
It may be noted that the 'Mana Ooru Mana Kuragayulu' programme was launched under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana in 2014. There are close to 1,500 farmers benefiting from the project. In all, there are seven collection centers in Telangana and 61 outlets in the twin cities.
Lakshmibai says, "Under this project, it is a direct market facility to the consumers. Farmers who are not willing to come to Rythu Bazaar are selling produce to the Manakuragayalu team at collection centers and we are serving the communities in need and crediting money to farmers' accounts online." "Following greater demand from the communities, we are supplying the farmers produce directly to the gated communities and some colonies twice or thrice in a week," informed officials. So far, transactions worth Rs 2.1 billion took place and the amount was directly credited to the farmer's account from 24 collection centers. In total, 1,200 to 1,500 farmers are benefited under this scheme.
