Purchase price of Tainong mango exceeds 9 yuan [1.33 USD] per kg

Chinese mangoes from Yuanjiang begin to enter the market

The mangoes from Yuanjiang entered the market one week earlier than last year. The temperature in Yuanjiang was relatively high this year, which caused the mangoes to ripen early. The mangoes are expected to enter the market in large volumes in middle to late May. The current wholesale price of good-quality Tainong and Guifei mangoes is around 7-7.5 yuan [1.03-1.11 USD] per kg. Some mangoes sell for as much as 9 yuan [1.33 USD] per kg.

Data from ncw365.com shows that Yuanjiang mangoes cost less than 4 yuan [0.59 USD] per kg when they entered the market last year, and the price dropped even further during the season. Many mango plantations sold for less than 3 yuan [0.44 USD] per kg. Even though the price is much higher this year, traders are still eager to purchase the mangoes.

The temperature in Yuanjiang was relatively high during the blossom season and many production areas saw the mango trees drop their flowers. The overall production volume dropped as a result of this development. Furthermore, Yuanjiang production areas suffered from typhoons and hailstorms while the mangoes were maturing. Some of the fruit was destroyed during the storms. Some plantations lost more than 50% of the harvest.
