China: Watermelon prices down in first week of May

Watermelon plantation technology continues to advance, and so does the date on which Chinese watermelons enter the market. The watermelons from Hainan have not yet left the market and already the production areas in Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, and Henan have begun to supply watermelons to the domestic market. Still, the supply does not exceed demand and many watermelon farmers and traders have made a nice profit.

Data from 5-zn.cn shows that the price of watermelons in production areas stabilized around 2 yuan [0.30 USD] and higher in the last week of April. The price slightly dropped and then stabilized again in the first week of May. Most watermelons cost less than 2 yuan [0.30 USD]. The overall supply volume and the product variety will both increase as the temperature rises.
