Area of fruit cultivation in greenhouses rises by 30 percet

The NFO reports that the total area of fruit grown in greenhouses in 2018 grew by almost 30 ha to 123 ha. In the province of Gelderland the area was more than doubled to 35 ha. Noord-Brabant remains the largest province with 57 ha fruit in greenhouses. The area of fruit in greenhouses is 30 ha of raspberries, and 30 ha of blackberries. The rest of the area is registered with the CBS as 'other types of fruit'.

In 2018 it was mainly the municipalities that already had a large area that were expanded. The municipalities with the highest area of greenhouses are Ligewaard with 17.7 ha, Oosterhout with 13.0 ha, Ette-Leur with 11.7 ha, Meijerijstad with 7.5 ha and Leudal with 9.5 ha.
