Turkish watermelons will be harvested soon

The first watermelons of the season will be harvested in the southern Turkish city of Adana. In fields next to the Mediterranean, the  protective covers are now being lifted. In an area of 0,1 hectare, farmers grow 8 to 10 tons of watermelons. The harvest is expected to start in May.

In Adana's Cukurova district farmers, grow watermelons on an area of 1200 hectares. As soon as the flowers started to turn into small fruits, the floating row covers were removed and nets are now being laid out to protect the melons from hail damage.

Adana supplies 20% of the domestic demand for watermelons in the country.
