Mexico sends 78,000 tons of avocado to the US for Cinco de Mayo

Mexican avocados are on their way to the United States for Cinco de Mayo, the biggest Mexican celebration in the US.

Mexico has sent 78,000 tons of avocado to the US, which will be enjoyed during the commemoration of Mexico's victory over France at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.

In the US, this celebration has become a space where Mexican people living there proudly celebrate their heritage. It is so big and important that it gets confused with the celebration of Mexico's Independence.

The Association of Mexican Avocado Producers, Packers, and Exporters (APEAM) stated that this amount was 25 percent higher than the 58,730 tons shipped during week 13 to 14 of the 2017-2018 season.

According to APEAM, this increase is due to an intense promotion strategy in the United States, their main market where they send more than 80 percent of all of their avocado production.

Michoacan sent 121,0908 tons of avocado to the US for the Super Bowl LIII.

In addition, the APEAM continues to work through the Avocados From Mexico (AFM) agency to become the main supplier of avocados in other countries, such as Canada and Japan.
