Lemons with an edible peel are the most popular on the market

Wholesaler Daniele di Mauro reports that prices are good at around €1.20/kg (of course for larger grades such as 3). These lemons have an edible peel and therefore are not treated with chemical principles or wax.

Daniele di Mauro

"You can tell, as the peel has imperfections. These lemons are not aesthetically perfect because they are grown using practically organic techniques, even though they are not certified. They are demanded by the H&R channel and the processing sector."

Di Mauro sells 6 kg crates from a Sicilian company specializing in lemons with an edible peel. What is more, these lemons have a high juice percentage, meaning they are popular with restaurateurs.

"The largest grade is grade 3, i.e. the number of fruits necessary to reach 500 grams. I often have to explain this to our clients as they are not used to such a weird measuring unit."

After all, the lemon season was characterized by a lot of produce and low prices. The Primofiore campaign is almost over with a price between €1 and €1.30/kg. The organic produce was generally €0.40 more expensive.
