The market price of mangoes has shown an upward trend since Chinese Spring Festival [February 5th, 2019]. Mr. Chang of Hainan Natural Fruit Fragrance Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. gave his view on the current mango market in Hainan: "After Spring Festival, mangoes entered the market in large volumes and the price therefore should have come down, but market demand is much larger this year than it has been in recent years. Growing market demand kept pace with growing supply and the market has therefore been stable. Price fluctuations are minor."
Mango production areas in the rest of China will gradually enter harvest season in the next few months. Additional mango supply from Guangxi and Sichuan, as well as Taiwan, will swell the overall mango supply volume. According to Mr. Chang, "only Hainan mangoes are currently on the market and competition is therefore not intense. However, when mangoes from production areas in Guangxi, Yunnan, and Sichuan enter the market, then the price of Hainan mangoes will suffer."
"The mango variety that is currently most popular with consumers is the Guifei mango that is allowed to ripen on the tree. We also sell some Jinhuang mangoes. We mainly sell our mangoes through market stalls, e-commerce platforms, fruit stores, community stores, WeChat traders, and as single-order custom-made gift boxes. We have worked hard in recent years to establish and promote our mango brands. The 'rainbow color' Guifei mango and busy life' mango already have great brand recognition among consumers."
