Italy: Exports to Germany remain important to Apofruit

Germany was confirmed as Apofruit's main market for exports. As reported by sales manager Mirco Zanelli, 30% of the company's produce destined to exports reaches Germany. "The most sold products to the German retail chain in 2018 were apples (6500 tons), peaches and nectarines (2000 tons), grapes (1500 tons) and pears (1500 tons) followed by kiwifruits, apricots, plums, citrus fruits and strawberries."

The turnover remained stable. "This market is increasingly careful about affordability but also about the quality of products. It pays increasing attention to the various club product varieties as well as to the origin of the products."

In the meantime, Apofruit also focuses on environmental aspects. Over the past few days, it has installed two charging stations for electric and hybrid cars in the two Cesena and Longiano (FC) facilities. This initiative represents a further step to safeguard non-renewable resources and respect the natural balance and is part of the constant evolution of the actions taken by the company to respect the environment and make the production process sustainable ever since the 1980s.

"It is the natural progress of a corporate policy that aims at safeguarding the environment and the health of consumers. All our 4,200 partners employ organic and integrated production techniques. What is more, we have opted for clean energy through photovoltaic systems and electricity," explains president Mirco Zanotti.

"The two stations are available to anyone who is passing by during opening hours. They are located near our company stores, so they provide an additional service to our clients. The energy is produced by the photovoltaic plants installed on the roofs of our facilities. Apofruit is also looking into purchasing two company electric cars," adds chief operating officer Claudio Magnani.

"These two installations are part of the 'I FEEL GREEEN' project, created to promote a more aware and sustainable use of the energy. It supports the companies transitioning towards energy from renewable sources and electric mobility," explains Vincenzo Maria de Rosa, CEO Energia Corrente, a company part of Consorzio per le Risorse Energetiche (CRE).

The two stations feature alternating current with two 22 Kilowatt sockets that enable quick charge-ups, i.e. 2 hours for total charges and half an hour for top ups. They feature artificial intelligence, meaning they are easy to use without the need to install specific apps. They were developed by Italian company NRG FOR YOU".
