The Mexican export of avocados increased by 8.5% in the month of January, according to the fruit and vegetable balance presented by the Group of Consultants of Agricultural Markets (GCMA), which emphasizes that the surface harvested and production increased by 5.4% and 4.9 percent, respectively.
However, Juan Carlos Anaya, director of GCMA, said that the average prices paid to producers and by consumer decreased by 23.9% and 1.9%, respectively.
Lemon production increased by 4.3%; even though the harvested area continued to decrease by 1.8%, exports increased by 8.5%, and the average price paid to producers had a strong 45.8% drop.
Tomato production increased by 9.7% in the first month of the year. The area harvested decreased by 9.8%, but the productivity increased. The volume of exports decreased by 3.5% and there was a 24.65% increase in the prices paid to producers and 31.4% in the prices paid by consumers.
