Chinese banana prices see gradual decline after rapid rise

The main suppliers of bananas to the Wanbang Market are production areas in Yunnan, Laos, and Myanmar. The volume of bananas in the Wanbang Market recently declined. There are several reasons for this development: first, the demand for bananas weakens in April when other seasonal fruits enter the market in large volumes. Second, temperatures rise, which speeds up the development of bananas, and makes it more difficult to keep the bananas in storage. The bananas need to be sold quickly after harvesting them, which is why the price is coming down. Third, the banana production areas are approaching the end of this production season. The last bananas of the season are unable to compete with other fruits, and the price therefore stopped rising.

The number of traders buying fresh bananas is shrinking, and the volume of bananas in cold storage is quite small. As the supply volume is falling, the price is expected to slightly rise again for a brief period, but when bananas from Hainan, Guangxi, and Guangdong enter the market in April the price will return to regular levels.
