One third of the pineapples on the Chinese market comes from Xuwen in Guangdong. Most consumers in Shanghai, however, are only familiar with Jinzuan pineapples from Taiwan, Xiangshui pineapples from Hainan, and pineapples from the Philippines. It is for this reason that Xuwen County and Yimutian Co., Ltd. jointly organized the "ultimate Xuwen pineapple experience week" in Huijin Supermarket in Shanghai. This promotional activity will bring the Balinese pineapple, which has been cultivated in Xuwen for more than 90 years, to Shanghai in the hope that consumers will learn the name of "Xuwen pineapples".
Xuwen pineapples
The Xuwen pineapple production volume exceeds 500 thousand tons per year. The pineapples are fragrant, sweet, and juicy. Other pineapple varieties, such as Balinese pineapples, Golden pineapples, and Jinzuan pineapples, gradually enter the market between March and May. The Jinzuan pineapple tastes sweet at first and then sour, while the Balinese pineapple tastes sour at first and then sweet. These are traditional pineapple varieties.
Xuwen pineapples became unmarketable last year. Many pineapples were left to rot in the fields. This is on the one hand because weather conditions delayed their entrance on the market, so Xuwen pineapple supply overlapped with pineapple supply from other production areas, which led to excessive market supply. On the other hand, pineapple transport from Xuwen is relatively difficult.
