Update table grapes - Week of March 11- 17

'Excellent volumes of Chilean Super Flames entering the market'

Entering the middle of March, the US table grape market has migrated into an excellent state of equilibrium as FOB pricing, overall supply and retail support are all in-line.  Good volumes of Chilean red, green and black seedless are moving through the system in a controlled fashion with daily demand finally being met by a steady flow of inbound arrivals.  Overall red and black seedless supplies are expected to be plentiful through the end of the month and into April, but we expect to see green seedless availability tighten towards the end of the month.  With solid promotions in place and good volumes of Chilean supplies currently on water, look for market conditions to remain consistent for the next 10-14 days.

RED SEEDLESS
Excellent volumes of Chilean Super Flames are entering the market and overall quality and condition has been very good.  The industry should see a flush of Crimson Seedless begin to arrive now through the beginning of April. Shipments of Peruvian red seedless are slowing down, so Chilean growers will have to carry the majority of the industry demand through to the end of April.  Pricing on Super Flame red seedless currently ranges from $18-$22 depending on size and condition.  Pricing on Chilean Crimsons currently ranges from $18-$20 on medium/large, $20-$22 on large and $24-26 on x-large.  Retailers will have excellent opportunities to promote through the end of the month as importers offer aggressive FOB’s in order to keep fruit moving through the system.

GREEN SEEDLESS
Availability of imported green seedless has improved over the past two weeks with overall arrivals finally able to meet daily demand.  Expectations are for another 10-14 days of good supplies, followed by drop-in arrivals as we near the end of March.  Overall quality and condition ranges widely with some importers storing their best quality lots to fetch higher pricing in the beginning of April.  Spot market pricing currently ranges from $20-$22 on medium/large, $22-$24 on large and 26.00 on x-large. Look for FOB’s to trend higher towards the end of the month. Thompson Seedless currently is and will remain the primary variety available through the balance of the season. With overall shipments significantly down in comparison to previous seasons, we should see spot market pricing head back into the low to mid 30’s by the April 10th marketing order

BLACK SEEDLESS
A flush of Chilean unknown black seedless continues to enter the US market and overall quality and condition has been very good.  We will start to see arrivals of Chilean Autumn Royal now through the end of the month.  Spot market FOB’s currently range from $18-$20 on large and $20-$22 on x-large with the mostly market at $20.  Supplies of Chilean black seedless will be plentiful through the first week of April.

RED GLOBES
Volumes of Peruvian Red Globes continue to trickle into the US market, although expectations are to see shipments decrease now through the end of the season.  Pricing has been depressed for the last month, but expectations are to see FOB’s tick higher as overall availability begins to decline. The industry will see a few arrivals of Chilean Red Globes now through the end of the month with increased volumes arriving after the April 10th marketing order. Spot market pricing currently ranges from $14-$18 with the mostly market at $16 for x-large fruit.
