Bright Red persimmon plantations conquer the coast of Peru

After a period of evaluation and study, the Bright Red persimmon variety has started to be cultivated on the Peruvian coast. This product is a very good option for the future of Peru's agricultural exports thanks to its adaptation and the commercial opportunity available for this product in the markets of the northern hemisphere when their local supply ends.

The season takes place between March and May, but the Peruvian company Vivero Perufrut is working to extend its harvest time so that they can start harvesting a month earlier and keep the European market supplied, after the Spanish season ends, according to the company's manager, Santiago Fumagalli.

Vivero Perufrut is also working to "fine-tune post-harvest details as, in general terms, the bright red persimmon is a crop with a good production and has adapted well in all the areas where it has been installed, which currently cover the Peruvian coast from the department of Libertad to Ica."

Vivero Perufrut, a nursery of fruit plants, works actively with the agricultural export sector and has been innovating for more than 25 years. "We have been actively working for more than 3 years with a group of local export companies and with Hillfresh, a trading company of Dutch origin, to introduce and validate the Bright Red Persimmon in international markets," Fumagalli said.

To introduce it to the markets, Vivero Perufrut is organizing the First International Persimmon Seminar, which will be held on April 11th, with the support of ADEX. "Three foreign specialists will be present at the event and we will discuss the local experience," Fumagalli stated.

Vivero Perufrut SAC is a company of the same group that owns SF Almacigos SAC, a pioneer company in the service of vegetable seedlings, and Hortisemillas SAC, a company dedicated to the commercialization of high-quality vegetable seeds, which are better known in the Peruvian agricultural sector.

Santiago Fumagalli concluded by saying that in 2011 they created this company "with the intention of helping Peruvian agriculture through new fruit proposals. Since then we have been researching several crops, although the first one we are promoting commercially is the Bright Red persimmon variety."
