Richard Bevelander, De Groot van Dommele:

"Good demand for Spanish oranges despite large citrus supply"

Sales of Spanish oranges in the Netherlands are going reasonably well at the moment. This is according to Richard Bevelander of De Groot van Dommele from the Dutch town of Breda. "There is quite a lot of citrus from Morocco and Egypt on the market so customers have a lot of choices. However, we cannot complain about the demand."

"We are currently mostly offering the Spanish Salustiana and Lane Late varieties. It is all great trade when it comes to quality. I find the Salustianas to be the best tasting oranges available at the moment. Our local clients can also do well with the Lane Late," says the importer.

"Due to the large supply, prices are slightly lower. However, for now, they are at a fairly stable level. When it comes to citrus sales, the adage of 'the colder, the better' is true. In that respect, the weather has not really played its part. But, we have nothing bad to say about the sales, " concludes Richard.
