Organic grapes very popular on the German market

The German market is increasingly demanding high-quality organic products. Biodynamic purees with the Demeter certification are particularly popular, probably because they are trendy.

"The trend in Germany is growing and we could not ignore such a lively demand," explains Salvatore Consoli, administrator of Si.Fa.BIO.

The Sicilian company specializes in the production and commercialization of PGI grapes in Mazzarrone but has also started employing biodynamic techniques to meet the increasing demand from the German and Swiss markets.

"Soon, all our fruit will be cultivated with the biodynamic method. We should be ready as of the next season."

"We were among the first to employ organic cultivation techniques and now, years later, we are once more ready to step forward with the biodynamic method. Our German and international interlocutors are the ones who asked us to do it."

"The fair in Berlin was an opportunity to find new commercial outlets and strengthen our position in the organic and biodynamic market. We reorganized our schedule years ago to meet requests."

Si.Fa.Bio was established five years ago for the commercialization of local fruit and is now a leading company on the European market. Last year, it produced around 2,000 tons on 80 hectares thanks to the cooperation of producers who have been working in this sector for over 15 years.

"We mainly focus on Italia grapes, although we also grow other varieties. We are talking about prestigious grapes that develop the best flavor in the Mazzarrone area - Victoria, Black Magic and seedless grapes between mid-May and late August and Italia and Red Globe between August and late November."

Salvatore Consoli and his collaborators will attend Biofach in Nuremberg between 13th and 16th February.
