How is the vegetable market prior to Chinese Spring Festival?

The Chinese Spring Festival [February 5th, 2019] is just around the corner, which means that the market for agricultural by-products has entered its busy season and trade is flourishing. The market for vegetables is no exception. In Jinzhou, Liaodong, local vegetables compete with vegetables transported from outside production areas to enter the market first.

Some vegetable prices significantly increased prior to Spring Festival in accordance with established market patterns. There are many reasons for this development. The festivities stimulate consumer demand. In addition, the cost price of out-of-season vegetables is relatively high, which further forces the retail price to increase.

Weather conditions in south China are not ideal either. There have been relatively many days with rain and snow which limits the production volume of vegetables and increases the cost price of transport. The price of storage has been stable and therefore has little influence on the vegetable price increase.
