"Chinese garlic market faces long-term oversupply issues"

This year the apple and pear markets in China are quite different from other years. This is because of the frost in the early period of the year which affected the production output. But the consequences for every company are different. “Even though this year the output of pears and apples is a bit lower, we are still able to export them to different countries. The price is also a bit higher than in other years, but this does not affect our export. We export Ya pears and Crown pears to the European market where they are received very well. The market is very stable, the quantity did not go up that much, but it surely did not go down,” said Wu Yan from the Qingdao Fresh Connection Trading Co., Ltd.

“We sell our apples to Europe and South East Asian countries. The Fuji apple is the most popular variety for our apple export. The output was down but this did not influence our export too much.” Besides apples and pears, Fresh Connection also exports ginger, garlic and pomelo. They keep close contact with the production areas in Pinghe, Botou, Jinxiang and Anqiu to ensure high quality fruits for their clients. Their main business channels are the domestic and international wholesale market and supermarket.

“Garlic, is our largest export product. The Chinese garlic market is not good this year, because there is too much garlic on the market. This also influenced other countries that produce garlic, we all have the same problem with a bad garlic market.” There are reports that in China the garlic production area will decrease for next season, because of the bad prices. They hope with a smaller supply, the demand will become better. “We will not produce less for next season, this season we exported 50 containers and for next season we hope to export 100 containers of garlic.”

“To broaden our clientele abroad, we will participate in the Berlin Fruit Logistica next week. We welcome everyone to our stand Hall 6.2 D-09.”
