First cucumbers of 2019 sold at BelOrta

Yesterday, the Belgian auction house, BelOrta, sold its first cucumbers of the new season. BelOrta's cucumber producers are doing everything in their power to produce the best Flemish-quality cucumbers. They want to do this for customers all over Europe this coming season as well.

Over 125 million cucumbers sold in 2018
The first BelOrta cucumbers of 2019 were auctioned off yesterday morning. These were supplied by Tuinderij Joosen from the Belgian town of Brecht. They were bought by Michiels Gebroeders for a price of €0,44 per piece.

In 2018, more than 125 million cucumbers were sold. This amount is a slight decrease when compared to 2107's numbers. The cultivated acreage for the 2019 season is 129 hectares. With an increase of four percent, this is slightly more than that of 2018. These cucumbers are one of BelOrta's top products. In the ranks of the top ten vegetables, cucumbers take second place.

BelOrta cucumbers found year-round thanks to lit growth
Cucumbers are available at BelOrta throughout the year, even in the winter months. This is thanks to lit cultivation. Supply peaks are usually from March/April to August. BelOrta cucumbers are grown sustainably and eco-friendly, according to Flemish standards.
