Slightly optimistic expectations regarding Italian kiwi marketing

Thanks to the information provided by reliable sources, FreshPlaza now shares the short-term prospects for the kiwi market.

Hayward Kiwi
Green kiwi sales have been increasing since the last days of December thanks to the end of the New Zealand fruit marketing. The first two weeks of January showed positive signs as well when the national decumulation increased by 30% than in the same period in 2018.

There is a particularly high demand for big-sized fruit as a consequence of their scarce availability both in Italy and Greece. Thus, there is a widespread optimism between the operators who hope to increase the prices within next weeks (also thanks to the driving internal demand). This ‘price-increasing’ trend should affect every fruit size.

The current prices are 0.50-0.60 euros/kg, which are lower than in 2018, with slightly more than 6% of unsold produce.

Yellow Kiwi
The size of the fruit is average to good – definitely better than in 2017. In Europe, the marketing of the G3 variety has ended (SunGold Zepsri), while the Jintao and the Dorì varieties are still undergoing the marketing phase. The demand is good and the prices stable.

European customers once again highly appreciated yellow-pulp kiwis.

Red Kiwi
The few sold quantities aroused much curiosity and created expectations for coming years.
