New cold store and cooking facility for Swedish vegetables

The new branch of cooperation Sydgrönt in an old Findus factory in Bjuv, Sweden, will enable growers to sell more vegetables. The factory has a surface area of 3,200 m2 and has a cold store filled with mostly cabbage, kept at the right temperature and humidity. Because of the cold store, Swedish cabbage will be on the shelves for a longer time, and the market share will increase from 40 to 60 percent.

At the moment, only large bags of red beets are in the storage warehouse. Sydgrönt is taking a new direction with precooked vegetables, such as the red beet. The cooking facility started last month. The first year, 2,500 tons of red beet will be washed, peeled, packaged, cooked, and chilled. This is intended as only the beginning in this new segment.

For growers, selling more means growing more. The area for growing red beet has to double to 37 hectares. Still a limited area, but will generate a turnover of 2 million euro in total for the cooking facility and the cold store.
