China: “Multiple factors behind recent increases in onion export prices to Europe”

“At present, the export season of Chinese onions is in full swing, and the export prices to Europe show an upward trend. This is mainly because the sea freight rate has increased. The shipping fee from Qingdao to the port of Rotterdam was 1,500 US dollars per container before December and now it is 1900 US dollars per container, which is more than 25% higher than the previous month. Secondly, the upcoming Chinese New Year will promote the sales of onions in the peak season. Once again, the towing fee has also increased." Wang Junjie  from Henan Junzhian Food Co., Ltd said in an interview with Freshplaza.

“Our peeled onions are from the Gansu producing area. The main varieties that are supplied all year round are yellow onions. At this stage, our peeled onions are mainly exported to European countries such as the UK and Poland.”

“In order to meet the individual needs of different customer groups, we offer a variety of packaging specifications in the packaging mode. At this stage, we mainly supply peeled onions with a size of 60MM or more, and we mainly pack them in 20kg boxes, 20kg bags and 25kg mesh bag. In addition, we also supply frozen onion cubes and onion rings with the size of 10*10. In addition to onions, we also supply ginger and garlic at the domestic and overseas markets."
