With an average production of 300,000 tons per year, the Pom'Alliance cooperative is the leading producer of fresh potatoes in France. The company initially specialized in the production and export (50%) of fresh potatoes, mainly in Europe, the Middle East and now in Asia. Recently, it has also been involved in the export of tropical fruits from the Philippines.
In January 2018, Pom'Alliance F&V Trading Asia was created as a subsidiary of the parent company Pom'Alliance based in France. The aim was to cover exports of potatoes from Pom'Alliance and Savéol brand tomatoes throughout the ANASE area.
Pom'Alliance potatoes are already exported throughout Asia, except for China and South Korea where the import of French potatoes is not yet accredited.
"The best mango in the world comes from the Philippines"
Romain Charpentier is the director of this Asian subsidiary. He lives in the Philippines. "Living in the Philippines for 10 years has allowed me to build a network and an important knowledge of the country. That's why we had the idea of not just exporting French potatoes to Asia, but also exporting tropical fruits from the Philippines. This country has colossal resources of tropical fruits, such as pineapples, bananas, coconuts and durians. The Philippines' is very lucky to have the best mango in the world. It is recognized everywhere. It has no fiber and has the best Brix rate: about 18 and up. They are expensive, but unique. “To be convinced of the unique quality of Philippine mangos is not complicated: ask me to bring you some and you will understand immediately after having tasted it. "
Pom'Alliance F&V Trading Asia exports mangoes to Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Canada and the Middle East. The company is in the process of negotiating the export to France.
Romain Charpentier has huge expectations of the Chinese market. "China represents 1.4 billion people. The potato is not allowed yet, but we are hopeful. However, the demand for durians and especially exceptional products like Philippine mango is in full expansion. "
According to Romain, exotic fruits are increasingly in demand. "Demand is growing especially for mangoes, durians, pineapples and golden pomelo. Demand comes mainly from China and other northern countries. These are rich countries that do not have these fruits locally. Romain adds that the amount of offer is no problem. "It's all about properly organizing the logistics and selecting the right quality."
"The new world market is Asia. The challenge is to be well positioned in each country. For that we must understand the culture of each of these countries, adapt, and understand needs,"concludes Romain.
