The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Gustavo Mostajo Ocola, arrived in Ica to participate in the launching of the 2018-2019 table-grape season, in which Ica contributes 196 thousand tons.
According to estimates, the country will produce 340 thousand tons of table grapes this season, i.e. 20% more than the 274 thousand tons it produced in the previous season.
Mostajo visited several farms in the region and delivered phytosanitary certificates based on risk profiles of the packing companies.
The minister toured several table grape packing plants and observed their selection process and the work that the plants perform until the grapes are exported.
The Minister of Agriculture said that the table grape had had a significant growth at the national level and that it had become one of the country's most important export products, along with avocado, blueberries, mandarin, mango, and asparagus.
The country exports its table grapes to more than 60 countries in the world. The most important markets are the United States, China, the countries of the European Union, Russia, Mexico, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, among others.
Mostajo Ocola also highlighted the importance of this crop in the area, since Ica has a great export potential.
