Wholesale market Düsseldorf:

After the decision of the court, it is now the city's move

The management of Großmarkt Düsseldorf Zwei.Null GbR, supported by the mandate of a majority of marketers, expects the city administration's aid to, in the foreseeable future, come up with a legally secure construction to restructure the wholesale market and to make it sustainable.

The Administrative Court of Dusseldorf has stopped the privatization aimed at by the city for the time being, due to constitutional concerns. A spokesman for the GbR management: "The fact that it came to complaints from marketers at all, we think is mainly due to the fact that some aspects of the terminated contracts were unclear. The marketers are insecure and also disappointed by the communication of the offices." Apparently, more lawsuits have been filed on these matters.

However, this does not change the intention to use the planning status achieved with the city and the IDR for the construction of the wholesale market, for further development. Significant progress has already been made in past talks and negotiations. Regarding future rental prices, a mutually agreed solution is within reach as well.

If the decision of the Administrative Court implies a deferral of the project, the extra time must be used by all parties with a view to reaching a joint solution that must be legally secure.

The marketers themselves are doing everything to be able to act at any time. Another important step is the founding of the Grossmarkthalle Düsseldorf eG, which will take place on 7 December. Within this new cooperative, the distributors of the food sector will organize themselves in the same way that growers and traders of the wholesale flower market have been doing for many years.
