In the framework of a Christmas initiative, the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Granada Mollar de Elche will ship this pomegranate variety to people from the Region of Valencia currently living overseas.
The initiative consists in the free shipping of boxes containing five kilos of pomegranates; a gift that can be requested by friends or relatives of the recipients so they can receive it before they travel to the Region for Christmas and, thus, surprise them.
In this first edition, boxes will be delivered to people living in Europe, with a total of fifty shipments, as reported by sources of the PDO Granada Mollar de Elche in a statement.
With this campaign, "we aim to start Christmas early and take a piece of this land and its flavors to people living far from it, and who yearn for the flavors of their land," said the president of the aforementioned PDO, Francisco Oliva.
The plan is also for the recipients to become ambassadors of Elche and the Mollar pomegranate.
The PDO of the Mollar de Elche pomegranate covers forty municipalities in the regions of L'Alacantí, Baix Vinalopó and Vega Baja, which produce more than 50,000 tons per season and account for around 75% of this fruit's national production.
