Sheehan Genetics LLC, owners of the Sheegene collection of table grape varieties, have announced that its long standing exclusive agency agreement with Williams Nurseries, for the territory of the United States, has expired.
Williams Nursery (Benkirk Inc.) have been exclusive agents for all Sheehan Genetics varieties for USA plantings since 2004 but now that the agency agreement has expired Sheehan will take over all aspects of its business in USA including direct licensing of growers for all new plantings of Sheehan varieties.
Sheehan will continue to work closely with its two authorized nurseries, Wonderful Nurseries of Wasco CA and Casa Cristal Nursery of Delano CA, to ensure that all orders for Sheehan vines are handled with care and professionalism.
In anticipation of this change Sheehan, based near Fresno CA, has been expanding its team under the leadership of COO Dr Elena Aguaron. Said Aguaron, “this is an exciting time for Sheehan Genetics and my team and I look forward to working ever more closely with our licensed growers and to giving them the agronomic support that they need to get the best possible results from our new varieties. We already have 3 of our varieties in the California top 15 list and we expect this number to increase next year as more new plantings come on stream.”
Duncan Macintyre, director of Sheehan said “we are grateful to Williams for all their help and support over the years, but now it is time for us to control our own business in the US, as we do elsewhere in the world, where we already have some 50000 acres of our varieties planted. We continue to invest heavily in our breeding program and look forward to bringing many more innovative new varieties to market over the coming years.”
Sheehan Genetics LLC is the owner of several varieties sold under various trade marks including Ivory (Sheegene 21), Sugar Crunch (Sheegene 21 from Pandol Bros), Allison (Sheegene 20), Great Green (Sheegene 17), Green Emerald (Sheegene 17 from Jakov P Dulcich), Timpson (Sheegene 2), Krissy (Sheegene 12), Timco (Sheegene 13) and Magenta (Sheegene 3).
