"China: "Cold weather delays cherry harvest in Yantai by up to a fortnight"

"The open field cherries in Yantai are currently blossoming, but their development was stunted by a nationwide cold snap on April 6th and 7th. It is estimated that the open field cherry harvest, which would originally enter the market in the middle of May, will be delayed by two weeks." This is according to Zhang Weiping of Laiyang Yafurui Import and Export Co., Ltd.

Large Yantai cherries

"The cold weather only has a limited influence on greenhouse cherries, but the influence on open field cherries is significant. Cherries have received a warm welcome on the market in the last few years and many fruit farmers have expanded their cherry plantations in response. As a result, the production volume of Yantai cherries increases year after year."

"It is expected that the cold weather last weekend will also influence the production volume, which will likely be smaller than last year. However, the overall cherry supply remains large, so the price should not be too high. In this current stage, we purchase Yantai cherries from fruit farmers and sell them in supermarkets and wholesale markets in Beijing, Shanghai, and other first tier cities."
