Eight per cent more Jazz apples than last year

“Jazz apples weren’t affected by bad weather”

After the New Zealand season for Jazz apples, the European season has now started. Although the apple production in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany suffered from frost damage, this wasn’t the case for production areas of Jazz apples.

“In the French Loire region and in Italy (South Tyrol), where the Jazz apples are grown, it has been very good weather,” says Tony Fissette from Enzafruit New Zealand. “This year we even managed to harvest eight per cent more than in the previous year. The Jazz apples weren’t affected by frost. It didn’t happen at blossoming time, so the apples could grow normally. That ensured optimum quality.”

Envy for the future
Besides Jazz apples, T&G Global also has the new Envy in its range. According to Tony, the sweet apple is gaining popularity in Europe. “We’re getting more and more demand for Envy,” he continues. “Demand is even bigger than supply. Many trees are currently being planted in Southern Europe, but that naturally doesn’t immediately result in production. We predict a good future for our Envy apples, mostly in Southern Europe. It just needs time.”

Fruit Attraction
Tony describes Fruit Attraction in Madrid last week as, “A potential global fair for both Europe, Asia and America.” Enzafruit presented the new harvest of Jazz apples from Italy and France at the fair.

“A great fair, good atmosphere and pleasant,” Tony Fissette thinks it was a successful edition of the Fruit Attraction. “The fair has good timing,” he says. “This fair is at the start of the European season. Berlin is after the holidays. The two complement each other nicely. More of these kinds of fairs would be pointless. It’s important to showcase your company during these types of events.”
