Global Trade Leaders Club awarded the International Europe Quality Award to Keitt Exporters in Paris, France. The award recognizes companies that strive towards continually improving their processes to ensure the products they offer are of high quality standards.
The Management has for the past few years invested in farmers and staff training on Good Agricultural Practices and adherence to proper post-harvest handling procedures for fruits and vegetables.
The company was represented by the company Managing Director Mr Asif Amin and their Sales and Marketing Coordinator Ms Grace Thuita. They were pleased to accept the award on behalf of the entire Keitt Exporters staff.
Keitt Exporters has its roots in very humble beginnings. The company started in 2002 mainly exporting Mangoes. The weekly volumes by then stood at 15tons per week. During start up, the staff comprised of 2 directors, 4 permanent employees and 15 casual employees.
The company operations were so small that the founding directors Mr Isaac Mihingo and Mr Asif Amin worked as operatives involved in collecting avocados and mangoes from the farms, packing and even processing the shipping documents.
"Currently, we export over 250 tons of Avocados, Mangoes and Fresh vegetables per week with 60% of our production destined for Europe. We have 3 directors, 100 permanent staff, 60 contracted and 400 to 500 casual employees located on our own premises with a state of the art packhouse," the company told.
"Our hope is that the award will serve as an encouragement to every SME that no matter how small the beginning is, staying true to the values that really matter is what will always count."
