U.S. market reopens for French apples and pears

After more than a decade the United States has reopened it's market for apples and pears from France, reports the German website Proplanta.de. Last week the Ministry of Agriculture in Paris announced that the first shipment of apples had already been sent to the U.S. With further shipments to follow.

The Ministry of Agriculture did not comment on the size of the export. The import embargo was imposed ten years ago by Washington after the discovery of Gracillariidae in parts of France. This pest attacks the leaves of fruit trees. During the summer of 2014 a bilateral protocol was finally signed to resume shipments to the American market.
