"Trade is picking up in Poeldijk," says Herwi Rijsdijk from ABC Westland Agri & Food. The necessary developments in the field are also taking place. For example, the German ripe specialist and importer Bratzler & Co has moved into the former building of Van Rijn, Satori Switzerland and R&F import are newcomers, Unifruit has it's own hall and Vitaal Europe has moved to a bigger building.

Solar Panels
In addition, the application for 8,000 solar panels to be placed on the new buildings has been assigned. "If the funding is complete, we hope to start the installation in 2015. For some companies in the area the solar panels will meet demands from foreign customers for a better CO2 footprint. The solar panels will produce 2 MW of energy, which represents 20% of the consumption from our tenants. These are some efficient developments!"
Food Center Westland
Sale units can be rented from 110m2, optionally equipped cold storage, an office, a pantry and a toilet. "There is interest from companies already established here and from outside companies as well. Some companies are waiting to see what others will come in, but they are definitely coming," says Herwi.
He wants to give the new Food Center Westland a modern look. "From the beautiful facades to the advertising boards, everything needs to look tip-top. The opening times of the wholesale markets are now being considered, which, for the young generation, is difficult to sustain. Due to demand from our tenants we have kept the opening time at 5:00 am. We also want to take advantage of the fact that so many businesses are here under our roof. We will do this by creating a joint website where we can place current offers and home delivery service. That fits within the future of the internet, and together we are stronger!"

Food Center Westland
The construction of Food Center Westland at the ABC site is progressing steadily. "The completion date of March 1st still stands," days Herwi. Food Center Westland describes itself as the new indoor fruit and vegetable wholesale center, with a focus on the wholesale sector, and hotel, restaurant and catering businesses. 18 units were built in the first phase, in which 14 are divided up amongst eight different tenants.
