Morocco: Strong price increase potatoes and vegetables in October

In Morocco the average price of tomatoes increased by 12%, courgettes and carrots by 9%, potatoes by 6%, legumes and broad beans by 17% and lentils by 2%, compared to September, according to the Moroccan Ministry of Trade.

"It deals with free market prices. Prices of imports depend on the fluctuations on the world market," Abdelaziz Ait Abderrahmane, representative of the Ministry, explains.

In order to improve the control on the prices of legumes negotiations with Algeria are taking place on the increase of their market share to 50%, compared to 7% in 2012 and 3% in 2011.
