Referring to the protests organised by the Association of Fiscal Employees (ANEF), the President of the Association of Chilean Fruit Exporters A.G.(ASOEX), Ronald Bown Fernández, points out that the situation has gone on for longer than it is wise, taking a severe toll on the normal flow of fruit exports to all markets.
This is particularly worrying in what concerns air shipments and land shipments crossing Los Libertadores Pass, as those shipments must include the necessary documentation for their entry into the destination markets, which has become near impossible, as customs agents find it very difficult to make their usual transactions with the offices of the Agricultural and Livestock Customs Service.
The situation is also starting to affect maritime shipments, as a consequence of the arrival of ships to their destination ports, mainly of Latin America, which do not carry the necessary documents for the admission of the goods and are thus retained until they are submitted.
“We make a calling to both the authorities and to all labourer associations currently striking, asking them to take into consideration that this situation, in addition to affecting our country’s competitiveness, leads to Chilean companies losing the trust of their clients all over the world, which is in turn damaging the interests of producers, especially of cherries and blueberries, squandering the entire year’s work.”
“Due to all this, we request, on the one hand, for emergency services to be restored, and on the other hand, for both parts in the conflict to settle their differences as soon as possible, so that normal activities can be resumed.”
