EMEA: Driscoll's makes sizeable contribution to Happy Hippo

Supporting philanthropy projects is high on the Driscoll’s priority list, especially when the spirit of Christmas is in the air. On November 28th Driscoll’s Managing Director of EMEA, Theo Houwen, presented a cheque of 16.761 Euros to the Dutch charity foundation Happy Hippo. This charity supplies birthday boxes to children, whose parents depend on the food bank of Breda, The Netherlands. A birthday box contains a various gifts, such as pencils, balloons, pancakes and other things that are essential for a child’s birthday.

Driscoll’s raised this spectacular amount by participating with a team of 64 people in the well-known running event Singelloop in Breda, last October. The participants as well as other colleagues worked hard to raise donations for the philanthropy project. With a total amount of 16,761 Euros for Happy Hippo, Driscoll’s even beat last year’s record of 9,110 Euros. Margriet Oostrom-Huibers, founder of Happy Hippo, was really surprised by the large amount of money that is donated by the Driscoll’s team. “Thanks to Driscoll’s we can expand even further and help more children in Breda to celebrate their birthdays.”

Theo Houwen, Managing Director of Driscoll’s EMEA, explains: “We not only want to be a profitable organisation, we believe it is important to do something for the community as well. Sharing with others is a greater feeling than gaining money.” Driscoll’s has a philanthropy team for each of our regions in Europe. The philanthropy team coordinates activities for the (local) charities that Driscoll’s supports as a company. With the new year on its way, Driscoll’s has already made its first News Years resolution by promising that all employees will keep supporting charities in the year 2014.
