Peru: Asparagus rank highest in non-traditional agricultural exports

The National Statistics Institute (INEI) reported that asparagus led the ranking of non-traditional exports of the agricultural sector in the first 9 months of the year, generating $234.3 million dollars, 5.1 % more than in the same period of 2012, which amounted to U.S. $ 223 million dollars.

The main destination of Peruvian asparagus was the United States, with shipments that amounted to $116.03 million dollars, Spain, U.S. $28.31 million, the United Kingdom, U.S. $21.84 million, The Netherlands, U.S. $19.64 million, France, U.S. $16.63 million, Germany, U.S. $5.84 million, Japan U.S. $5.19 million, Australia, U.S. $ 4.96 million, Belgium U.S. $2.91 million, and other countries, U.S. $12.94 million.

The second agricultural product in the ranking was the mango that had shipments for U.S. $105.3 million when in the first 9 months of 2012 it generated U.S. $94.4 million. Avocado exports amounted to U.S. $101.5 million (U.S. $ 81.1 million); grapes totalled U.S. $75.9 million (U.S. $ 74.4 million).
