Mexico: SAGARPA will boost production of Papaloapan's Persian lime

The delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) in Oaxaca will boost production of Persian lime and of the infrastructure necessary to process and package it in the Papaloapan River region.

On a tour of the packaging facilities of Persian lime of Bhetania's municipal agency, Manuel Garcia Corpus, delegate for SAGARPA, said that they would work on projects to support regional producers, "there are programs and resources to invest in more acres and infrastructure for lime, the area's conditions are ideal."

The federal delegate stressed that the Bethania's Persian lime processing plant is a successful business that needs to be driven, "we will review each region's projects so that we can strengthen them and increase production, quality jobs, and generate revenue."

"SAGARPA has to cooperate with the producers, this isn't just a visit, it is a commitment so that, via the federal programs, we can improve the processing plant. You should feel lucky that you have the natural resources," said the federal official.

In this regard, Teodoro Carranza Nava, responsible for the processing plant, explained that they previously worked with chillies, but, as they didn't succeed, they decided to switch to lime two years ago, "we have very good quality in the area and we need the limes to stay in the state so that we can process it in Oaxaca, so that the benefits stay here."
