Production value of German agriculture has clearly grown in 2012

The production value of the German agriculture has increased by 6% to 54 billion Euro in the last calendar year, and the total company income increased by almost 10% to 14.5 billion Euro due to higher wages, reports the Germany website topagrar.com. These current figures on the sectoral development of income were recently published by the German  'Bundesanstalt für Landwirtschaft und Ernährung' (BLE).

In most sectors the production value clearly increased due to higher growers prices. After the relatively low harvest amounts in 2011 the BLE believes this is mainly for grain and oilseeds, with increases of 16 c.q. 33 percent. Most animal based products also had a higher production value in 2012 than in 2011, also due to higher prices. An exception was milk production: the grower prices in this segment for raw milk were under the level of 2011.

There were tangible increases in price for producers in fodder, fertiliser and energy. The increased income for the agricultural sector, however, was more than able to compensate for the increase in costs.
