Bayer CropScience received an Agrow Award for its herbicidal active ingredient indaziflam in the category “Best New Crop Protection Product”. Marketed under brand names such as Alion™, Specticle™ and Esplanade™ products based on indaziflam offer new tools to control a broad spectrum of weeds in agricultural crops as well as in turf, home and garden, forestry and industrial vegetation management market segments.
“We are incredibly honored to receive this prestigious award,” said Dr. Hermann Stübler, Head of Weed Control Research at Bayer CropScience at the award ceremony in Amsterdam (Netherlands) on Monday October 28th. “The need for new herbicides with alternative modes of action and resistance breaking capabilities is more urgent than ever. In a team effort we created and developed indaziflam, employing our leading expertise in herbicide research and our deep knowledge of weed control.”
The non-selective herbicide Alion™ was developed primarily for use in perennial crops such as citrus, tree nut, grapes, pome and stone fruit, and multiyear sugarcane. Furthermore, Alion™ is an effective tool to manage weed populations that are resistant to other modes of action. Specticle™ is available for professional users operating in the commercially important turf segment. Esplande™ was successfully launched into the industrial vegetation management segments and is about to be launched into the forestry segment. As a continuous-action weed and grass barrier, indaziflam is also available to private consumers in North America in the lawn care segment (DuraZone™).
Indaziflam belongs to the chemical class of alkylazines. The new compound controls a broad spectrum of weeds and provides excellent long-lasting efficacy at low application rates. This makes indaziflam an environmentally compatible and pioneering active ingredient in the global herbicides market.
The prestigious Agrow Awards, presented by Agrow, a leading information provider for the global crop protection industry, provide the industry with the opportunity to showcase its innovative excellence. The awards feature 15 categories in areas such as R&D, formulation technology, packaging innovation, stewardship, marketing, business strategy and corporate responsibility with entries being judged by an independent panel of industry experts.
