The Italian transport trade union Transportounito-FIAP has announced protests in road transport for Monday 28 October till Thursday 31 October inclusive. Blockaded roads will probably be part of the protests.
Budget
The direct cause of the protests is the fact that the Italian government in its budget for 2014 has made less money available for transport than the last few years: from
400 million Euro annually in the last 7 years to 330 million Euro for 2014.
Insolvency
According to Transportounito, however, the bankruptcy of thousands of Italian transport companies is also a reason to start protests. According to the trade union
the insolvencies are the result of expenses getting out of hand, such as excise duty
on fuel, long waiting periods at traffic junctions and when loading and offloading and the very often cheaper transport companies from East European countries.
