Italy: New carrot season starting at Orto-Sole

The harvesting of new carrots has started at the Orto Sole cooperative, based in Torrimpietra, an ideal area for carrot production.

"More than 50 hectares of carrots on land which is mostly composed of sand (more than 90%). Together with the area's weather conditions and our production techniques, this characteristic means our carrots have a deep bright orange colour and excellent organoleptic qualities."

Orto-Sole's new carrots are grown with integrated control methods according to the GlobalGAP standard. They are processed loose and in 500-1,000 gram trays or bags at the company's plant, which has the "IFS Food standard".

"We have also started producing purple, white and yellow carrots, which are packed in 500 or 800 gram trays and were very successful last year," concludes Marco.
