Over 15,000 visitors at Potato Europe

Last week on September 11 and 12, Potato Europe took place in Emmeloord. Over 15,000 visitors from almost 50 countries travelled to the town, also known as 'World Potato City'. This is a large increase compared to 11,000 visitors in 2009. However, as in 2009, around a third of the visitors were from abroad. The number of exhibitors has also increased compared to the last edition of Potato Europe in Holland. 250 stall holders from 17 countries attended, compared to the almost 200 stall holders in 2009.

During the fair the halls and surrounding area were filled with interested parties from the entire international potato sector. Everyone from seeding exhibitors to packaging suppliers presented themselves. Outside, various harvesting demonstrations were given. The theme 'The Next Level' could be found in many aspects of the fair. For instance, 'the next level innovation award'. HZPC, first prize winner, was awarded the golden award by the Dutch minister of Agriculture, Dijksma. HZPC presented the 'potato shelf of the future', an innovative way of presenting potatoes in the shop. The second prize went to HLB and Restrain came third this year.

Exhibitors responded positively to the course of the fair. Marcel Mulder, Miedema Agricultural Equipment Factory, indicates that it was especially busy on the first day. During this day they managed to speak to many international interested parties. According to Marcel, the second day started off slow, but was also certainly a good day. Joop Bonnet, A.C. Loogman en Zn., speaks of two busy days, particularly the first day. "It was beyond our expectations for a first time."

Potato Europe is organised in a four year cycle in Germany, Belgium, France and Holland. The next edition will take place next year on September 3 and 4 in Bockerode, Germany.
