Mario de Goede, Cool Fresh International::

"Sales of pineapple in a dip after a good Summer"

After strikingly good sales of pineapple in the otherwise really laborious Summer months of July and August, sales are in a dip for a while. "Weeks like these are also part of it. There are not all that many pineapples available, the volumes in Costa Rica are limited, but now demand is a little slow," Marco de Goede, responsible for the pineapple unit of Cool Fresh International, says.

"The last few weeks melons were very cheap and that has of course has an influence on the sales of pineapples," Marco continues. The price of the pineapple is, depending on size, on a level of between 5.50 and 7.50 Euro. "The first six months were very good and I expect the market to improve quickly again. It can now only increase. I therefore expect an increasing demand from the East Block and Russia within the next few weeks."
