Ecuador seeks productive links with Chilean companies to increase exports

Production linkages would allow increasing exports once Ecuador achieves strategic alliances with Chilean entrepreneurs.

Antonio Ruales, director of Ecuador's Commercial Office in Chile, reiterated that the Chilean market, with about 17 million inhabitants, is very similar to the Ecuadorian one so the increase in exports would be limited.

However, he said, the idea is to achieve a strategic alliance so that, through them, they can achieve exporting to other markets that are more open to them (the Chileans) because of their trade agreements.

He explained that the strategic alliance might be done in exports of finished products with high-added value that have components from Ecuador and from the Chilean industry.

The official made these assessments during the seminar held in Guayaquil (413 kilometres Southwest of Quito) by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Pro Ecuador.

The seminar trained Ecuadorian entrepreneurs how to do business, how consumers, distribution channels, the customs process, health regulations, among others, work.

Victor Jurado, Pro-Ecuador's General Coordinator, said that the intention is to achieve partnership with Chilean entrepreneurs with the aim of increasing national expectations to sell more to other markets in which, both Ecuadorians and Chileans are involved in.
