Company managers mention that, "potatoes with a coloured flesh come originally from the Andes (Peru), but they found good soil in Italy too. This year, we have diversified cultivation areas, introducing purple potatoes also in Southern Italy so as to guarantee blossoming during the whole year. We guarantee certain price levels for producers who choose to sow this variety. The volume expected for 2012 is 200 tons."
Torti has been operating in the potato and onion sector since 1975, year in which it was founded by Giuseppe Torti. Today, the company has state-of-the-art warehouses with automatic selection and packaging lines and sells its produce throughout the year both in the domestic market and abroad. The company operates in all Italian production areas, especially in the Fucino area.

As regards the rest of the production, the company reports that it has carried out Spring sowing 15-20 days later than usual, so harvesting started on 18th July and will carry on until the beginning of November (15 days more than usual).
"We have completed 30-40% of harvesting, though operations are going on slowly as sowing was carried out progressively. Yields per hectare seem to be in the norm, even if grades vary a lot." The total production should remain in the 25,000 ton average.
Finally, an interesting fact: as every year, Torti took part to the 41st edition of the Potato Fair in Avezzano (Abruzzo). On 7th September, the biggest potato in Italy was presented, made by the Torti company.
