Increase in volume of apples stored in the EU

The EU's stock of apples in November amounted to 5.507 million tonnes, compared to 4.005 million tonnes in the same period a year ago, reported FAMMU/FAPA based on data from WAPA.

About 80 percent of the EU stocks of apples were stored basically in three countries: Poland, with 1.695 million tonnes, Italy, with 1.646 million tonnes, and France, with 747 thousand tonnes.

Among the varieties stored in the EU countries, the most common are the Golden Delicious, with 1.454 million tonnes, and the Gala, with 597 thousand tonnes. There are also more than 381 thousand tonnes of Idared.

In the case of pears, the stock in EU countries stood at just 716 thousand tonnes, compared to 1.339 million tonnes exactly one year ago. In the period at hand, most pears were stored in Belgium and the Netherlands, respectively accounting for about 270 thousand tonnes and 261.8 thousand tonnes. The most common variety is the Conference, which accounts for about 590 thousand tonnes.
